Synopsis:
Inza visits her friend Bert Westcott who is on death row after being convicted of murder. Bert claims to be innocent, so Inza summons Doctor Fate. Westcott, a writer, claims that he was researching a gangster known as the Dude and was drugged. While Bert was unconscious, the gangster committed murder and framed him.

Doctor Fate locates the Dude at a department store which is the target on a protection racket. Fate scares away the crooks, but he is unable to get a confession to the murder. When the Dude meets with his men after the encounter with Fate, then plan a trap for him. The crooks lure the Doctor to the Dude's apartment where they have a noose prepared. Doctor Fate escapes the trap.

Once the Dude is captured, Doctor Fate takes him to the governor to make a confession. With the real criminal in custody, Doctor Fate then returns to the prison to stop Westcott's execution.
