A Death in the Family Chapter 5

Two versions of this story were prepared and drawn. Based on the results of voting by readers, the pages showing Robin's death were printed.

This story is continued from Batman #427 and continues in Batman #429.

Synopsis:
Batman combs the wreckage of the warehouse which exploded with Jason Todd inside. He finds Sheila Haywood. She is barely alive, but her injuries are too severe. She speaks to Batman telling him that Jason threw himself in front of her to protect her from the blast. She then dies.

Batman then finds Jason's body. He is already dead. Batman removes Robin's costume, then reports the explosion to the authorities as Bruce Wayne. The bodies are returned to Gotham for a small funeral.

Batman then goes about finding the Joker. A clue left behind intentionally leads him to the United Nations in New York. Superman meets him there to explain that Iran has a new ambassador who enjoys diplomatic immunity. A car pulls up, and the Joker steps out. He announces that he has been appointed as the new Iranian ambassador.
