Synopsis:
Police detective John Riley has been nicknamed Handsome John. His good looks have given him the opportunity to go to Hollywood and become a star. However, his boss Brannigan doesn't want Riley to leave, so he assigns him an unsolvable murder case.
When Green Lantern learns about Riley's predicament, he offers to help solve the case. GL wants Handsome John out of town because his own girlfriend, Irene Miller, has fallen for the detective. Riley and Green Lantern find the killer and his boss Big Mike. However, Big Mike is murdered before he can talk.
Brannigan forces Riley to continue working the case to find Big Mike's killer. Green Lantern helps again. Together they expose the police commissioner and his partners as part of a secret crime syndicate. Big Mike was a member of the group and was killed to prevent their exposure.
With the case solved, Riley prepares to leave for Hollywood. However, Brannigan and others think Green Lantern was responsible for solving the case, not Riley. Handsome John then agrees to stay in town long enough to crack a big case by himself to prove his skill as a detective.
