Synopsis:
A gang of thieves tries to steal the Sparkes Ruby. Superman catches one of the gang and recovers the ruby, but the other two crooks kidnap Lois Lane. They bring her to Painted Valley, a small desert town. Superman finds a map and trails them to the valley. There he meets James Hibbard, a chemical manufacturer, who is setting up a new factory.

A local prospector Jim Jasper is upset about the new development and mistakes the crooks as part of the building team. He is caught by the crooks and tied up with Lois. Jim summons his burro to eat through the ropes, so they can escape. Superman captures the gang then returns to Metropolis with Lois. Jasper makes peace with Hibbard, agreeing to be good neighbors.
