Chapter Two:"The Witch Within"

This story continues in Arak/Son of Thunder #6.

Synopsis:
Arak is present while Malagigi summons the demon Belphagor. By thwarting the demon and surviving, Malagigi gains valuable intelligence on the plans of Angelica, the sorceress from White Cathay. The information provided by the demon indicates that she intends to bring the knights of Carolus Magnus home to fight for her father against the huns.

The following day a jousting tournament is staged. Arak watches as several of the knights square off in duels. During a match involving Valda, Angelica suddenly appears in the middle of the field. She is granted an audience before the king. She suggests a joust between her brother Argalia and each of the king's knights. If Argalia wins, the loser would agree to return to White Cathay in service to her father. If Magnus's knight wins, Angelica offers to stay in service to the conqueror.

Despite Arak's warnings about the sorceress, the knights rise to the challenge. Rinaldo, the best jouster is first. Argalia bests Rinaldo with the aid of his sister's sorcery. However, only Arak and Malagigi detect the spell. Rinaldo is forced to join Angelica in service.

That night, Arak and Malagigi infiltrate Angelica's camp. The sorceress detects their presence and awakens. While Arak battles her bodyguards, Malagigi is dragged away by demons. Arak is then thrown into the forest. By the time he regains consciousness, Angelica and her party have already departed for the tournament the next morning.
