Synopsis:
Arak and Valda continue on their journey to Byzantium. On a mountain trail they encounter a group of soldiers led by Brutius. The soldiers mistake the travelers as Slavs and a battle ensues. Arak and Valda are captured, and Brutius destroys the letters from Carolus Magnus and Pope Hadrian. He then plans to kill both of them.

The murders are interrupted by the sounds of piping. The soldiers immediately mount their horses and ride off. Arak and Valda are then released by a satyr who quickly runs off. The warriors climb the nearby mountain which is Mount Olympus and rest for the night.

Valda awakens to the sound of pipes. She rises and becomes entranced by the satyr. When Arak awakens, Valda is gone, and he is confronted by a centaur named Khiron. The centaur chases Arak up the mountain before the indian finally turns the tables. The fight ends, then Khiron shows Arak faces carved in the mountainside. One of the faces is Arak's.
