Synopsis:
Three hun ambassadors arrive at the court of Carolus Magnus. They bring an offer of peace. To seal the bargain they present the queen with a necklace that the huns took from Byzantium. To the king they give a golden hunting helmet.
Magnus wears the helmet on a hunt with his sons. Valda joins them. However, the helmet is spelled to cause other men to see a stag instead of the king. Having been trained by Malagigi, Valda is able to recognize the sorcery. She prevents the king's own sons from killing their father who they perceive as prey. The Iron Maiden destroys the helmet, and the king plans to punish the huns for their treachery.
