Comments:
This story is continued in part from Blackhawk #249.
This is the final chronological appearance of the Earth-1 Blackhawks. Their revival in Blackhawk #251 takes place during World War II. Given that Chuck dies and two other members, Hendrickson and Chopper are severely injured, it can be assumed that the Blackhawks disbanded following this story. The team appears on the Monitor's satellite during Crisis on Infinite Earths, but they were likely taken from the World War II era.
The text piece included in this issue provides an epilogue to the story. It details that Chuck's body was flown to Blackhawk Island where he was given a funeral.
Synopsis:
Blackhawk is chased by the War Wheel which is commanded by Killer Shark. While Blackhawk stands alone, Chuck rallies the other Blackhawks for a rescue mission. Chopper stays behind due to a back injury. They locate Blackhawk, and Andre picks him up. The team then encounters enemy planes. Andre and Olaf are shot down. When they land, the War Wheel goes after them. After Stan is also shot down, only Chuck remains in the air. To protect his teammates on the ground Chuck crashes his plane directly into the War Wheel. He succeeds in destroying it at the cost of his own life.
