Synopsis:
Luthor invents a new device which he calls the Atom Scrambler. The machine is capable of sending solid objects into the 4th dimension, then reassembling them anywhere in the world. Two of Luthor's men rob a bank in Metropolis. Superman tries to stop them, but Luthor uses the Atom Scrambler to spirit them away. Clark Kent writes an article identifying the men by name, but Luthor has instantaneously transported them across the country, providing an air-tight alibi. Clark is discredited and fired from the Daily Planet.

Clark tries to resume his career at other newspapers, but his reputation has been damaged. Luthor's men then rob a bank vault right under Superman's nose. Finally, Clark tags along with Lois to an art gallery. When Luthor strikes again, Superman is caught by the Atom Scrambler and transported to Luthor's Lair. The scientist does not fully reassemble the Man of Steel leaving him trapped in a phantom state.

Unable to been seen or heard, Superman is able to make contact with Lois by using her electric typewriter to send a message. Lois then infiltrates Luthor's hideout and reverses the effects of the Atom Scrambler. Superman is restored to normal, and he captures Luthor, destroying the Atom Scrambler in the process.
