Comments:
This story takes place in August, 1867.

Synopsis:
Teddy Chandler escapes from a prison work crew by poisoning one of the guards. He heads for the desert and poisons each of the watering holes he passes. Eventually Teddy and his partner Orion cross paths with Jonah Hex. Jonah captures Teddy, intending to turn him in for a reward. When Hex stops to help an orphan boy, Teddy is able to get a gun and knock out Hex. Orion leaves his canteen of water behind for Jonah.

Hex awakens in a farmhouse after getting the orphan to safety. He then sets out to find Teddy again. First, he finds Orion who has been shot by his partner for losing the canteen. He then catches up to Teddy who is dying from drinking water from one of the watering holes that he himself had poisoned.
