Comments:
This story continues several threads from Action Comics Weekly #641. However, the story has progressed in the interim suggesting the existence of an unpublished chapter that may have been intended for Action Comics Weekly.

The main plot point which appears to be missing relates to the confrontation with Asteroth. In the last published story, Merlin was his captive, yet he begins this story having escaped from Asteroth. The possibly unpublished battle with Asteroth was recapped in flashback in Demon #2. Whether this missing piece was the writer's intent or the result of the Demon feature's discontinuation in Action Comics Weekly is not known.

Asteroth and Lurgo have both had their physical appearances radically altered in the interim, likely due to artistic interpretation.

Merlin claims that the triumvirate of Hell rulers now includes: Lucifer, Beelzebub, and Belial. This indicates that Azazel, who was named as one of the triumvirate in Sandman #4 has been replaced by Belial.

This story continues in Demon #2.

Synopsis:
Jason Blood wanders through Hell as hordes of demons assault Asteroth. Etrigan has plans of his own, because in Hell Jason cannot banish him. He consults an oracle which directs him to seek his mother in the pit of Hell known as Masak Mavdil. The Demon begins a quest to become Lord of Hell.

Meanwhile, Merlin has united with Glenda and Randu in Hell, but he sends them back to Earth when they annoy him. Glenda and Randu return to Jason's apartment. A neighbor calls the police. They are brought to the police station and questioned by Lt. Kitch.
