Synopsis:
Aquaman and Aqualad encounter several strange sea-beasts attacking cargo ships. The creatures leave the people alone, but are responsible for sinking several ships. While fighting the monsters, Aquaman receives a summons from Atlantis. He is informed by the Atlantean leader, Stamar, that the beasts came from Atlantis and seek special volcanic food.

Aquaman seeks another source of food to lure the creatures away from the surface. While searching he meets his friend Quisp the water-sprite. Quisp informs him that a pirate Captain Clay took the food. Aquaman suspects that Clay has planted the food on the cargo ships to entice the creatures into attacking. The Sea King tracks down Clay at his island hide-out and overcomes the pirate with help from Quisp and surprisingly the sea-beasts.

When Aquaman returns the sea-beasts to Atlantis he finds himself unwelcome. His old foe Pomoxis has taken over the city from its rightful leader, Stamar. Pomoxis had given the sea-beasts food to Clay to keep Aquaman busy while he enacted his takeover. Aquaman and Aqualad are thrown into an Atlantean prison with Stamar, but escape by luring the sea-beasts into destroying the prison. Once freed, Aquaman is able to overcome Pomoxis and reinstate Stamar as ruler of the underwater city.
