Comments:
This story, published in 1950, shows Batman using an electric wheelchair. This pre-dates the first actual electric wheelchair, invented by George Klein in 1953.
Synopsis:
While chasing a gang of crooks, Batman's rope is cut causing him to fall. Robin carries his injured partner to a nearby doctor who tells Batman that both of his legs are broken. The legs are put into casts, and Batman is side-lined for three months. When news of the injury reaches Vicki Vale, she contacts Bruce Wayne for a date. If he can't walk, she will expose his secret identity.
Meanwhile, crooks try to take advantage of Batman's condition. Batman constructs an electric wheelchair and continues to battle crime including the gang of Babyface Fulop, who are stealing money to pay off a photographer who took pictures of Fulop's newly reconstructed face.
After several unsuccessful attempts to catch the gang, Robin proves to Batman that his legs were never broken. Robin remembered a previous injury that did not show up on Batman's x-rays. The doctor falsified the injuries because he was the plastic surgeon blackmailing Babyface. Batman and Robin trap the doctor and Babyface's gang. Later, Vicki meets Bruce for their date and discovers that he can walk.
