Synopsis:
Gotham City is menaced by the Red Mask Gang and a new masked criminal who calls himself the Sphinx. Batman and the police are both stymied by the crooks. Eventually Tom Packard, the leader of the Red Mask Gang, accepts an invitation to meet the Sphinx. Batman appears, but he is apparently killed by the Sphinx.

As the crooks converse, Robin arrives and is captured. The Sphinx plans to use the Boy Wonder, so they simply tie him to a chair. Robin escapes and captures the gang. He then learns that the Sphinx was really Batman who used the phony criminal guise to trap the Red Mask Gang.
