Comments:
Buddy Baker becomes a costumed super-hero in this story called A-Man. His name is changed formally to Animal Man in the first story of Strange Adventures #195.

Synopsis:
Buddy Baker decides to become a costumed super-hero using his animal powers. On his first mission to capture a gang of electronic robbers, Buddy finds that his animal powers suddenly abandon him at a critical moment. He is still able to acquire animal powers from nearby animals, but they now wear off after time. A-Man recovers from the mishap to capture the gang, but the gang boss Grabo gets away.

Buddy acquires the characteristics of a bloodhound to track down the boss. He trails Grabo to a small island populated by dangerous exotic animals. Buddy acquires their powers and uses them to trick Grabo and his men into one of their own traps.
