This story is continued from Legion of Super-Heroes #42.
Synopsis:
The Legionnaires dig themselves out of the rubble of the Manhunter temple, then they return to Headquarters to formulate a strategy to defeat Laurel Kent. Polar Boy requests the presence of additional Legionnaires, but Quislet and Wildfire have vanished. Timber Wolf finds a miniature black hole in Quislet's quarters.
The Legionnaires who are present confront Laurel at the Grand Canyon where she is searching for the immortals created by the Guardians. Brainiac 5 has a device which can detect their presence, so Laurel steals it.
The Legion follows Laurel back to the himalayas where Brainiac's device leads her. The Legion have set a trap, but Laurel is too powerful. Suddenly, she realizes that the immortals are not present and have likely traveled into space and colonized other worlds. Realizing her mission has failed, Laurel self-destructs. The Legionnaires bury her and reveal that the city of the immortals was a fake they created to fool Laurel. The fate of the real immortals remains a mystery.
