Synopsis:
The alien alliance begins its invasion of Earth. One Thanagarian artist is sent to California to act as a martyr. He will detonate a bomb on a fault line in order to trigger a massive earthquake. Animal Man sees his ship land. When he investigates, he is attacked by a female warrior. Animal Man rips off her wings and she is killed upon impact after falling out of the sky. Animal Man then tries to deactivate the bomb, but he cannot. The bomb emanates telepathic images from the martyr's life which further confuse and panic the hero. Just as the bomb is about to detonate, Hawkman arrives and turns it off.
