Synopsis:
Travis Morgan, Mariah, and Machiste travel through a valley that has a perpetual cloud cover. As a result the Skartaris sun never reaches the valley floor which is covered in snow. While trekking through the snow, a bear attacks the group. Morgan is critically injured while killing the beast. Before Mariah and Machiste can help attend to his wounds, they are found by a group of barbarians who take them captive. Morgan is left for dead.

The Warlord is not dead. He tries to stand and reach help, but eventually his legs give out. His unconscious body is found by a snowbeast and taken to a cave. The beast tends to Morgan's wounds until he awakens.

When Morgan regains consciousness, he comes face-to-face with the snowbeast. While his initial reaction is one of repulsion and defensive fear, he quickly realizes that the creature saved his life. Despite the creature's warning, the Warlord then goes in search of his captured friends.

Morgan finds them in a village above the valley floor and the snow below. Despite overwhelming odds, Morgan attacks and frees his friends. While surrounded by foes, Morgan then witnesses the snowbeast appear and begin helping him fight the warriors who flee in panic. The snowbeast grabs Morgan to bring him to safety. Machiste, not realizing the creature's intentions, throws a spear that hits the snowbeast in the back.

Morgan is angry that the snowbeast was killed when it was only trying to help him. Suddenly, a beautiful winged woman rises from corpse of the beast. She explains that her name is Tanea. Long ago she dabbled in the black arts to save her people from a plague. As a result she was transformed into the snowbeast. Morgan's ability to see beyond her gruesome appearance and see the beauty within has freed her from the spell. She then flies away. Morgan and the others also depart before the warriors can regroup.
