Synopsis:
Matt Savage leads his herd in search of water during a drought. After locating water, Matt approaches the boss of another herd and asks them to wait so that his own herd is not trampled. Greg Parker the leader of the second herd refuses to wait and pulls a gun on Matt. Savage defends himself and disarms Parker. He then forces the rival trail boss to wait until his own herd has moved on.
Parker's herd continues to follow Savage along the trail. Matt worries that the drought has made grazing land scarce. He needs to maintain his lead or Parker's cattle will eat the grass, leaving Matt's with none.
One night a card player enters the camp and wins money from Matt's men. The next morning he returns to the camp with the sheriff accusing Matt and his men of robbery. The sheriff finds money in Matt's saddlebags and arrests him. In court, Matt claims to be innocent and proves it when he notices that the money in his bags was not wet from the rainstorm that broke up the card game. Dexter, the card player, confesses that Parker hired him to accuse Matt. He planted the money in the saddlebags.
Matt is cleared of the charges and returns to the trail. Parker's herd has caught up, but is now quarantined with Texas Fever.
