Comments:
Tarantula’s origin is revealed in flashback. Though a newspaper places the date as June 22, 1941, it probably took place over the course of several weeks, since Sandman was still wearing his original costume on June 28, 1941, as shown in All-Star Squadron Annual #3.

This story reveals the story behind the Sandman’s change in costume, from gasmask and trenchcoat to yellow and purple spandex.

The Hammer of Thor was last seen in All-Star Comics #3 and appears next in All-Star Squadron #21.

Although not revealed in this story, Fairy Tales Fenton is working for the Ultra-Humanite.

The JSA is reported missing in this story. As revealed in All-Star Squadron #19, they have been kidnapped by the Brain Wave.

This story, which takes place in early February, 1942 continues in part in All-Star Squadron #19.

Synopsis:
During a meeting of the All-Star Squadron to discuss the recent disappearance of the Justice Society members who have joined the military, the Squadron is attacked by Fairy Tales Fenton, an old foe of the Sandman. Fenton wields the Hammer of Thor, previously encountered by Hawkman. The team defeats Fenton with the help of their new ally and member, Tarantula.

Following the battle the All-Star’s rush off to the New York World’s Fair Grounds to answer a morse code challenge issued from within.
