Synopsis:
While testing his robots in space, Superboy encounters a Kryptonite meteor which forces him to land on an asteroid. The meteor collides with his robots, destroying them and creating rings of Kryptonite dust around the asteroid.

Superboy is unable to penetrate the Kryptonite rings and can find no lead on the asteroid. He is stranded. He does find a robot named Metalman who was built by Jor-El and sent into space on a test flight long ago. Metalman becomes Superboy’s companion while he is stranded.

The Kryptonite rings begin to move closer to the surface causing Superboy to weaken. He gives Metalman super powers so that he can fly to Earth as his replacement. The robot turns around instead and smashes himself onto the surface of the asteroid. The robot sacrificed himself for Superboy since he was made of lead, Superboy can create a protective lead suit to escape the asteroid. When he returns home, Superboy honors the memory of Metalman.
