Synopsis:
While scuba diving on vacation in Hawaii, Hal Jordan finds a sunken ship full of gold. He examines the gold, then is attacked by several other divers. During the fight, the attackers use a dark chemical to incapacitate Hal. Though he absorbs the chemical with his power ring, Hal still loses the fight.
Hal is brought to the hospital where he finds that he has become allergic to his power ring. Once he removes the chemical from the ring, he returns to normal. He is then released from the hospital and begins tracking down the gold.
Hal traces the gold back to Keith Kenyon, a man who has discovered a strange property of gold that has been submerged in sea water for at least a century. Using the gold, Kenyon has created an elixir which grants him invulnerability. He is forced to test the formula when Green Lantern raids his island hide-out.
Green Lantern's ring is powerless against Kenyon, after he has consumed the elixir. Hal speculates that the formula was created with gold which is yellow. To fight Kenyon, Hal creates aqua regia, an acid that dissolves gold. When used on Kenyon, the chemical removes his invulnerability. Hal then defeats Kenyon, destroying the remaining elixir in the process.
