Comments:
This story is subtitled "Tales of Kryptonite No. 3" and continues in part in the second story of Superman #179.
Synopsis:
A piece of Green Kryptonite has travelled through space and been changed into Red Kryptonite after passing through a cosmic cloud. The Kryptonite returns to Earth and affects Superman. The Man of Steel is afflicted with being able to speak and write only in Kryptonese. He fears that the problem will cause him to reveal his secret identity as Clark Kent.
When Clark arrives at the office, Lois catches him writing and speaking Kryptonese. Superman explains in English that he was joking. Before arriving at the office, he summoned Krypto and used another piece of Red K that allows the dog to speak. Krypto then used super-ventriloquism to fool Lois into thinking Clark was speaking English.
Later at Superman's Fortress, the chunk of Red Kryptonite is transformed into Gold Kryptonite. If Superman approaches it, he will lose his powers permanently.
