Synopsis:
As the Kents leave Smallville on vacation, an earthquake opens up a hole in the ground. The Kents car falls into the hole before it seals itself. Superboy rescues his parents, but the accident was witnessed by a bus driver. Fearing that Clark's identity would be exposed if the Kents were to show up alive, they allow Smallville residents to believe them dead.

The Kents move to Dover and take the identities of John and Margaret Kendall. Clark becomes Chuck and pretends to be blind. However, Clark's new secret identity soon becomes a problem, when citizens try to protect him during emergencies. Clark is unable to slip away easily to become Superboy.

Superboy eventually devises a way for the Kents to return. He creates a mine shaft underground where the Kents car was buried. Then he pretends to rescue the Kents as Superboy. The excuse paves the way for the Kents to resume their normal lives.
