Comments:
This is a Detached Service Diary story featuring Hendrickson. Blackhawk only appears as a narrator.
Synopsis:
Hendrickson dogfights an enemy plane. He is wounded, but he believes he has killed his opponent. However, the pilot bailed out and has survived. Meanwhile Hendrickson lands on an island with an American military base.
Hendrickson is greeted by the Americans and attends a USO show featuring comedian Randy Daye. The funny man targets his jokes at superior officers which earns the ire of both Hendrickson and General Gordon who orders Daye taken to the stockade.
By the time Hendrickson is preparing to leave, Daye has pieced together clues that the enemy pilot was booby-trapped the Blackhawk's plane. When his warnings are disregarded Daye runs toward the plane and saves Hendrickson's life when the plane explodes. Hendrickson then offers to speak on the boy's behalf.
