Synopsis:
When the late millionaire Mark Dane's will is read he leaves a sizable donation to an animal shelter to be run by the Legion of Super-Pets. The will states the donation is to make up for the cruelty of Dane's ancestor Cyrus Atwill. Superman and the Super-Pets fly into the past to observe Atwill.
In the 19th century, Superman and the Pets join a circus as an animal act. They observe a man, Henry Bergh, admonishing acts of animal cruelty. The worst offender is junkman Cyrus Atwill. Superman and the Super-Pets play a series of tricks to teach Atwill kindness. Their efforts eventually lead Atwill to turn himself over to police. Bergh is also successful in his campaign for anti-cruelty laws. He later creates the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A.).
