Comments:
This story continues in Legends #2.
G. Gordon Godfrey's appearances in Batman #401, Detective Comics #568, and Shazam:The New Beginning #4 occur between pages 3 and 9 of this story.
Firestorm appears in Justice League of America #257 between pages 6 and 20 of this story.
This issue marks the post-Crisis debut of several major characters. Though some characters appear to be direct continuations of their pre-Crisis incarnations, the post-Crisis versions are considered to be entirely independent from their Earth-1 counterparts.
Synopsis:
Darkseid launches a new plan to discredit the super-heroes of Earth. He sends Glorious Godfrey to Earth to turn public opinion against costumed heroes. G. Gordon Godfrey speaks on Billy Batson's TV show. During the program, a villain called Macro-Man attacks the city. Billy becomes Captain Marvel and a battle ensues. When Macro-Man has Marvel in his grasp, the hero summons his magic lightning. Captain Marvel changes back into Billy Batson, but the lightning also appears to kill Macro-Man.
Darkseid also sends a techno-seed to Earth to create Brimstone, a giant fire being. Firestorm is the first hero to battle Brimstone and is defeated. Firestorm leaves to get help, leaving a time-traveling Cosmic Boy to continue pick up the fight with Brimstone. Just as Cosmic Boy appears to go down, Firestorm returns with the Justice League.
Across town, the Flash apprehends Deadshot, then visits Titans Tower. Rick Flag is also approached by Amanda Waller to rebuild Task Force X and form a new Suicide Squad.
