Chapter III: "The Summoning"
Chapter IV: "The Restoration"
This story was published after the conclusion of the Invasion series. However, Superman leaves Earth during the conclusion of Invasion for an extended period of time. Nightwing was also offworld during the Invasion. Therefore, this story must take place sometime prior to the Invasion of Earth at a time prior to Nightwing's departure into space with the Titans.
This story reveals that Clark Kent was summoned by Abin Sur before Hal Jordan. He was rejected as a Green Lantern candidate because he was not a native of Earth.
Synopsis:
In the Salt Flats of Utah, Green Lantern uncovers an illegal operation involving stolen nuclear materials. A government official Major Easterly tries to arrest Hal for his interference and ends up shooting him. As Jordan lies near death, he sends out a power beam to find a successor.
Eight men are deemed worthy. Clark Kent, Nightwing, Guy Gardner, a kidnapper inhabited by the spirit of Deadman, a factory boss, a priest, a hostage negotiator, and an indian man. The eight men are held in stasis, but Deadman is able to leave his host body and communicate with Hal's spirit. Clark is also able to break free from stasis. Clark and Deadman influence Hal and give him the strength to recover from his wounds. The eight men are then returned to their lives. Hal recovers and finds a judge willing to issue a warrant which will stop Easterly's illegal activities.
