Comments:
Firestorm is divided into his three component parts in this story: Ronnie Raymond, Mikhail Arkadin, and Svarozhich. Martin Stein then assumes the Firestorm matrix.
Synopsis:
With Brimstone threatening to destroy the sun and therefore extinguish life on Earth, Rasputin approaches Simon LaGrieve. Together they contact Firehawk, Firestorm, and Martin Stein to hatch a plan to save the planet. Firestorm cannot leave Earth in his current form, so he is forced to divide. Ronnie and Mikhail are returned to their normal lives. Svarozhich remains, but Stein is able to influence him. Firehawk and Svarozhich then propel a ship into orbit containing Stein. Once in orbit, Stein destroys the ship in a fireball and is reborn as the new Firestorm.
Stein was always intended to become Firestorm until Ronnie intervened. He now travels to the sun to battle Brimstone. He succeeds in defeating Darkseid's minion and destroying the technoseed which ceated him, but in so doing a miniature black hole is formed on the surface of the sun. Maya guides Firestorm to enter the black hole and close it from the other side. Firestorm is then trapped with no apparent way home, but Earth is safe.
