Synopsis:
While capturing a trio of crooks in an abandoned house, Hawkman and Hawkgirl find a dimensional warp which leaks evolutionary radiation. Entering, they find the other-dimensional world of Illora, in which the intelligent races have devolved to beast form, and the beasts evolved to humanoids, due to an experiment gone wrong. Their Absorbascon is damaged in combat with Tiger-Men, but they learn that they and the Wingors, winged gorilla-men, both believe Hawkman and Hawkgirl to be members of each other's race, and so attack them.
They get the animal-men to battle each other, while they escape and find the scientist who caused this chaotic situation, an unchanged Wingor woman named Dwyanna Ral. She had sought to restore normal mutation of stagnant lifeforms on her world, but her control device went off accidentally, affecting everyone but her. The mechanism to regain control is outside and she cannot get to it without devolving to gorilla state, so Hawkman and Hawkgirl go instead. They face the Tantors, rat-men with elemental powers, who sense that their evolved state will cease if the aliens should succeed. Hawkman uses the Absorbascon in reverse to contact the Wingors to battle the Tantors, and the diversion allows the mechanism to be activated, and the natural order is restored. The radiation halted, Hawkman and Hawkgirl return to Earth.
