Synopsis:
An alien device that controls dimensional time reflex orbits the Earth and occasionally causes the underwater city of Necrus to materialize. When the Black City appears again, its leader, Mongo, orders the destruction of Alpha Colony, an underwater colony of surface dwellers. Aquaman learns that Mongo has returned and locates the Black City. Mongo traps Aquaman inside a crystal tomb, then prepares to attack Atlantis.

Somehow, the alien device in orbit causes a duplicate Aquaman to be formed. Aquaman is able to control the duplicate by remote and uses it to defend Atlantis. After the attack is successfully defeated, the automaton Aquaman collapses dead. Believing it to be the real Sea King, Aquaman's friends and family mourn his loss.

Mongo, whom has escaped the capture of his invasion force, finds the real Aquaman still imprisoned in his crystal tomb. He tries to kill the Sea King for real this time, but Mera intercedes. She believed her husband was still alive and searched until she found him. Mongo returns to Necrus just as it dematerializes into another dimension.
