Part 2: "The Legion and the Warlords"
This story is continued from Adventure Comics #346.
Synopsis:
Cosmic Boy, Phantom Girl, and Karate Kid fly to the second tower, in Ceylon, where Lightning Lad, Chameleon Boy, and Ferro Lad greet them, and Cosmic Boy relates the story of the Alaskan tower's destruction. As the entire Legion meets in Ceylon to discuss new strategy, world comes that the South American tower is under attack. Leaving Karate Kid, Nemesis Kid, Ferro Lad, and Phantom Girl on guard, the others streak to Tierra del Fuego to defeat a small Khund raiding party. However, the tower is demolished by an electro-bolt from the Ceylon tower.
The Legionnaires return to the Ceylon tower to investigate, and find it has been destroyed just as the Alaskan one had been, and as in Alaska, evidence points to a Legionnaire as the one responsible. Noting that Karate Kid is missing, the heroes soon spot him flying to Metropolis, and trail him to the Clubhouse, where they discover him in their arsenal vault, where he has apparently destroyed all their weapons.
The heroes confront the Kid, and as he turns to face them, Nemesis Kid suddenly appears and surrenders, confessing his guilt. He has needlessly incriminated himself, having mistaken their use of the name "Kid' to refer to himself. His betrayal abruptly becomes a secondary importance, however, for at that moment, thousands of Khund ships attack the Earth.
To the Legionnaires' utter surprise, a fourth tower rises in South America to destroy the alien fleet. Superboy explains that he suspected treachery after the Alaskan tower's destruction, and so built a dummy tower in South America, and hid the real one underground.
As Nemesis Kid is led away, the Legion notes the survival of several alien ships. Garlak orders them to destroy the Legion in revenge, and the heroes fight back, using their jet platforms. The ship's crews are defeated, and Karate Kid captures Garlak. He later explains to Phantom Girl that his own suspicions of Nemesis Kid, confirmed when he saw him wreck the Ceylon tower, led him to trail the traitor to the Legion arsenal.
As for Nemesis Kid, he uses his power to teleport away and escape, and the Legionnaires wonder if they'll ever see him again.
