Synopsis:
Aquaman’s fish allies telepathically alert him to the menace of Starro, a giant starfish-like alien, who has landed in the seas of Earth, and is bent on conquering the planet. Starro has mutated three ordinary starfish into gigantic duplicates of himself for this purpose. Aquaman uses his signal device (described as being "ultrasonic vibrations caused by solar power") to summon the members of the Justice League of America to what is presumably their first official meeting.
Besides Aquaman, attending are Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and J’onn J’onzz, the Manhunter from Mars. Superman and Batman are also shown to be members, but other duties prevent them from answering the summons.
Flash, as chairman of the group, disperses the members to battle Starro’s duplicates: Green Lantern uses his power ring to transform one back to its original form, Wonder Woman and J’onn J’onzz team up to stop the second, and, while Aquaman scouts the seas for the original, Flash finishes off the third. Discovering that, alone of the populace of the town of Happy Harbor, teenager "Snapper" Carr is unaffected by the mental powers of Starro’s deputy, Flash asks the young man to meet the other League members, who discover that the lime he had been spreading on his lawn is the enemy’s weakness. They are then able to overcome the alien conqueror, by bombarding him with the substance, and in gratitude for his aid, they make Snapper an honorary League member.
