Synopsis:
When the Legion visits Proty II's home planet and views a statue honoring the Unknown Legionnaire, the heroes reminisce about the adventure in which they met him.
Just as the Legion members bid farewell to Supergirl, who is returning to the 20th century, they receive word that Dr. Norm Eldor, a criminal scientist, has escaped from the Prison Planetoid. After giving Supergirl data relevant to the case, the others go to Proty II's homeworld, where Dr. Eldor has taken refuge and where the protean inhabitants are aiding the criminal.
When Cosmic Boy and Phantom Girl are menaced by the Proteans, a flying figure in a lead mask, whom they dub Unknown Boy, appears to save them. Meanwhile, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, and Sun Boy have been captured by Eldor and the Proteans that he is one of the Llorn, the super-scientific people who colonized their world ages ago, and treated the Proteans with an evolution ray before departing, allowing them to survive natural disasters ruining their planet. Eldor now seeks the secret of the great weapon the Llorn had used to treat them. The captured Legionnaires are freed by their comrades and Unknown Boy and, in the aftermath, capture Dr. Eldor and convince the Proteans of his evil intentions.
Superboy then reveals his deduction that Unknown Boy is really Supergirl. The Maid of Might, her memory now restored, explains that she had encountered Red Kryptonite, which erased her memory but allowed her to see through lead. Still seeking to protect her secret identity, she fashioned the Unknown Boy identity and used the data the Legion had given her to aid them against Dr. Eldor.
Since that time, the Proteans have erected the statue in Unknown Boy's memory.
