Synopsis:
Long ago twelve mighty rulers led by Zus wanted to be immortal. They created a space ship and placed themselves into suspended animation until the secret of immortality could be found. Every so often one of the eternals would awaken to monitor the progress of science on many worlds to determine if immortality had been discovered.

While patroling space in his Cometeer, Captain Comet finds the vessel of the eternals. He boards the ship after it automatically fires upon him. He finds a note left by Merkry that leads him to Algaron. Captain Comet arrives just in time to see the eternal kill a scientist as a test for his immortality formula.

Captain Comet is able to resist Merkry's weapon, so the eternal races back to his people for help. The eternals then chase Captain Comet into an asteroid field. Their ship collides with an asteroid and is destroyed.
