Comments:
Due to Degaton’s tampering with time, the members of the All-Star Squadron lose their memories of their encounter with him and their future foes such as Solomon Grundy. Degaton himself returns to Professor Zee’s lab in 1947 with only a vague dream of having tried to conquer the world.
Solomon Grundy is transported to the moon in 1947 as a result of Degaton’s involvement.
As a result of Wotan’s spell and the strange volcanic fires of Degaton’s island, Danette Reilly receives fire-based powers which manifest in All-Star Squadron #5, when she assumes the identity of Firebrand.
This issue includes a fact file for Solomon Grundy, Professor Zobar Zodiak, Wotan, and Sky Pirate.
This story is continued from All-Star Squadron #2 and continues in part in All-Star Squadron #4.
Synopsis:
The newly formed All-Star Squadron finishes off Degaton’s attack force bound for San Francisco, then pursues Degaton’s submarine.
The Shining Knight and Danette Reilly escape from the sub and return to Degaton’s volcanic island where the Justice Society is imprisoned. Wotan and Zodiak pursue them, Danette is struck by a bolt from Wotan and plunges into the lava. The Shining Knight is knocked out too, but not before causing Zodiak to drop his universal solvent on the Spectre, allowing him to awaken from Wotan’s spell. Spectre rescues the JSA, the Shining Knight, and Reilly just before Degaton detonates the island.
With the All-Star Squadron closing in, Degaton realizes his plan has failed. He returns himself and his time-displaced villains to their rightful time periods with no memory of having been involved in his attempt to take over the world.
The revived JSA and All-Star Squadron rendez-vous at the Golden Gate bridge and with the help of Spectre’s powers, listen to the First Lady’s radio address following Pearl Harbor.
