Comments:
This story is continued from Martian Manhunter #3.

New details about J'onn's past are revealed including the fact that Erdel's machine brought him to Earth across space and time. The Mars he left was from centuries earlier.

Synopsis:
J'onn returns to Mars where he is met by H'ronmeer. J'onn tries to fight, but H'ronmeer only wants to talk. The martian god shows J'onn the remains of Mars and hints that the world J'onn left behind was actually centuries in the past.

Back on Earth, the Justice League has tracked J'onn to Erdel's laboratory in Colorado. Batman demands that Erdel use his machine to bring J'onn back to Earth immediately. Erdel refuses. Mister Miracle sides with the scientist against Batman.

On Mars, J'onn is confronted by the ghosts of his family and former people. He begins to remember that a plague threatened his race and claimed the life of his wife. She was consumed in the fires of purification which led to J'onn developing a fear of fire. After his daughter fell victim to the plague, J'onn's anguished mind was responsible for making contact with Erdel's machine. The machine transported J'onn to Earth centuries after Mars had died.

Once his full memories are restored, J'onn is able to make peace with his own past. His mind had been keeping the ghosts bound to Mars for centuries. H'ronmeer brought J'onn back in order to release them. The spirits then transcend the physical plane. After saying goodbye to his long dead people, J'onn contacts Erdel and is brought back to Earth.
