Synopsis:
Jonah Hex tracks and kills two outlaws, but his horse is killed during the gunfight. Jonah begins walking to town until he flags down a stagecoach. Aboard the coach is deputy Fred Caro with a prisoner named Blackjack Jorgis. Blackjack's men stop the stage, kill the driver and the deputy and rob the passengers. Jonah is unable to stop them, but he vows to track them down.
Jonah takes the stagecoach to the town of Hard Times along with the two surviving passengers. In town, he meets sheriff Hank Brewster, an old friend. The next day he sets out after Blackjack. Unknown to Jonah, one of the survivors from the stagecoach recognized him and brings word back to his friends, former rebel soldiers.
Hex finds Blackjack and his men. He surprises three of them, but a fourth man takes Jonah from behind. Hex is saved when the four rebel soldiers arrive. They kill Blackjack and his gang, but they intend to hang Jonah as a traitor to the Confederacy. Only the arrival of Sheriff Brewster stops them.
Jonah returns to town once more where he receives a challenge from the rebel soldiers. He goes to meet them knowing its an ambush. He kills them all successfully, but Hank Brewster is shot accidentally during the fight. Jonah leaves town, saddened by the loss of his friend.
Two days later word of the battle reaches a wealthy plantation owner across the country. He vows to try to kill Jonah again.
