Synopsis:
Lady Chian returns to the City of the Golden Gate which has been damaged during the attack by Kr'rth. She locates Arion who has recently restored a portion of his lost magic. Their reunion is cut short by an attack from inside the city. A prison work crew led by the jackal S'Net has escaped custody. S'Net captures D'Tilluh forcing Arion to use his new magic to rescue the king. S'Net escapes in the confusion while Arion battles a sorcerer's apprentice. Following the battle, Arion decides he must find a way to restore the rest of his magic.

Meanwhile, Mara believes Wyynde has been killed when a prisoner flying a small craft crashes into the tower window where Wyynde had been positioned.
