Synopsis:
Arion and his friends return to the City of the Golden Gate where a conclave of mages is to be held to determine the royal succession following the death of D'Tilluh. Mara and Wyynde are reunited, but Mara is disturbed by the changes in Wyynde's personality. After she brushes him off, Wyynde immediately begins pursuing T'Galla, the daughter of D'Tilluh.

Meanwhile various plots unfold as two ministers try to politic for Arion's promotion to king. Arion rejects the offer. When the conclave begins, Arion senses evil and makes a quick exit. He engages a group of flying shadow bats which envelop him. Then one of the visiting mages, Rhajeem declares that he will be the next ruler of Atlantis.
