This story takes place following the death of Ellen Baker in Animal Man #19
Synopsis:
Metamorpho takes a leave of absence from the Justice League to visit his son. Captain Atom sends Buddy and Dmitri with him to keep him out of trouble. He then contacts Oberon in case thinks escalate. Guy Gardner hears the call and rushes off to extend his services to Simon Stagg.
Metamorpho arrives and finds his ex-wife Sapphire. She leads him to a factory where the baby is kept. Rex sees that his child is held in captivity due to element changing powers. He also learns that Stagg is using the child to get rich from newly created fuel compounds.
Rex goes berserk. He easily knocks out Buddy and Dmitri. Then Guy confronts him. Metamorpho and Guy fight. Metamorpho wins and finally reaches his son. However, Stagg has asked Doctor Magnus to send in the Metal Men.
